Thank you!
Yesterday was the culmination of months of dedication, hard work and enthusiasm by literally thousands of us. It is only because of the energy and generosity of good people like you that Referendum I came so close to victory.
We ran a marathon for basic legal rights, but we just weren’t able to cross the finish line this year.
Still, we came a long way. We asked a lot of the people of Colorado. Just a decade after Amendment 2 was struck down, we sought to become the first state in the nation to grant basic legal rights to committed same-sex couples. The decision was close because of the positive and strong case made by supporters and volunteers all over Colorado.
We shared important stories that showed the courage, compassion and commitment of same-sex couples in our state. Today, Colorado has a better understanding of the challenges these good couples face, which gives us a foundation upon which we can make future progress.
Finally, our disappointment must not turn into discouragement. The opponents of basic legal rights want to end this struggle here, today, and watch us walk away is frustration. You and I know that the strength of this effort won’t be diminished by one setback at the polls.
Thank you again from all of us at Coloradans for Fairness.
